I am sooo excited to be rallying a great team of people to walk in the American Tinnitus Association's Jack Vernon Walk to Silence Tinnitus Fundraiser in Portland, Oregon! This year, we have a matching gift opportunity that will really make this event a success. For every donation of $25 or more, ATA will receive a donation of twice that amount! So for example, a donation of $100 would receive a matching gift of $200, for a grand total of $300 going to the research fund! So your support this year will be dramatically magnified.
I developed the debilitating condition of tinnitus in January 2010 after being prescribed the medication Accutane. I soon learned that there is no cure for tinnitus, a terrible ringing sound in one's ears and brain, and treatments are only somewhat effective and very expensive. Anyone can develop tinnitus. Young, old, men, women. It can be brought on by loud noises, medications, neck/head trauma such as a car accident, ear infections, age, or stress. ANYONE can get this disorder at any time. So many are suffering. Some find it to be a mere annoyance others lives are destroyed so much they are unable to work, sleep and socialize.
Please consider joining my team so that we can raise money for tinnitus research. For every $50k raised, one research project can be funded. Not many people talk about tinnitus but the ATA estimates that over 50 million Americans experience tinnitus to some degree. Of these, about 16 million have severe enough tinnitus to seek medical attention. And about two million patients are so seriously debilitated that they cannot function on a normal,day-to-day basis.
Help fund research to alleviate the suffering of so many with this disorder by registering to walk with my team. Even if you can't physically make the walk you can "virtually" walk with the team by registering. I can't wait to see you all there! Look for me and the dogs on June 16th.
